How the TrafficCam Works |
|
The Media Hub TrafficCam overlooks Lancaster Circus, next to the Central Fire Station. It is positioned on top of Dalton Tower. It is intended as a pilot for web enabling traffic cameras to provide up to date traffic information to the public. The image on the left is made up of a sequence of images converted in to an animated .gif. | |
| The camera image is grabbed every 20 seconds from the video capture card and written across to the web server as webcam.jpg. The webcam page has a meta refresh tag to cause it to reload every 20 seconds. |

The software used for the timed image capture is IspyQ and currently runs on a win98 pc.
Due to the inherent unreliablilty of windows, the pc does a reboot each day at midnight as a scheduled task. Future plans include upgrading to a Linux based solution to increase system reliability. |
